Green goes local
Berkeley- and Israel-based Palore hopes to tackle that with its product, which adds information to local search results through a plug-in. Palore doesn't have its own content, but "scrapes" about two-dozen green sites, said CEO and co-founder Hanan Lifshitz.

Search Is Paramount in the Emerging Green Category
Palore is one example which enables consumers to identify green merchants when using Google's search engine. Below is Palore functionality loaded into Google Maps. Note the symbols included under each listing - including the carrot which denotes that the restaurant offers organic foods.

Eco-friendly eateries look beyond the menu
A new Web site (www.palore.com/Green.aspx) guides those who want to eat at greener restaurants. A James Beard Award, the culinary world's version of the Oscars, went in the food-writing category to Michael Pollan's "The Omnivore's Dilemma," a tome concerned with sustainability.

Weekend Web Review: Palore.com
Imagine this, business owner: what if you could have an icon next to your company's title when someone Googles you that shouts: "This is a sustainable business!", or "This is an all organic restaurant!" Would that make you proud?

Palore - Local Search Companion
Part of what they're doing is offering icons in search results to help make the listings more user-friendly and relevant. So far, most of these icons suit well for your traditional local spots like restaurants, coffee shops, etc. although they plan to broaden this greatly.

Palore - Local Search Companion
Palore does for local search what BASF does for products. By accessing the wealth of information available from various sources, including such premium sources as Zagat and Wine Spectator in the example of restaurants, Palore complements existing business listings.

Palore: 'Forget Listings, I Want Just One Thing'
In San Francisco, for instance, Palore will add related information for coffee houses from coffeeratings.com. The summary includes rating points, espresso makers used, etc. Going back to the site, by clicking on Palore's coffee bean icon (a new feature), will tell you what the reviewer thought and add additional information.

Preview: Conversations With Local Search Start-Ups
There is a great deal about the company that I can't talk about yet but, generally speaking, it provides a browser add-on that enhances local search results of major search players. This involves overlays to search engine result pages, including icons and Ajax-based windows, which present and format local data in a more intuitive way. There is also the ability to personalize search results, in line with a visible trend toward personalization.

Palore.com – Restaurant listings and reviews
The site organizes the ratings using cute, colorful icons such as a wine glass, coffee bean, menu, wheelchair, stars, dollar signs, and even a heart for good places to take a date. Just click on the icon and a Palore bubble pops up more details and links. Palore is also touting its capability to flag green businesses. A carrot icon shows eateries with meat-free and organic options rated by LocalHarvest and HappyCow, and the Fair Trade symbol indicates a thumbs-up from TransFair USA.

Hungry? Palore maps lots of restaurant reviews
When looking for a new spot to eat or shop, I tend to turn to Yelp (controversy aside) more than to other business rating sites. But I could be missing crucial comments made by someone outside of Yelp. Happily, I just checked out a cool service that displays ratings from around the Web at a single glance. The browser add-on Palore aggregates business reviews from a variety of Web sites and displays them next to Google and Yahoo's local search results in Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Palore provides aggregated business reviews with click-to-call
Palore wants to add a new dimension to the way we get our reviews. With most of users trusting Google, Yahoo, and Ask to deliver local search results or flocking to newer local business data providers like Judy's Book, Yelp, and CitySearch, it makes life difficult for newer startups to differentiate themselves from these existing services. As for the users, they can't practically be searching for reviews on each of these search engines. Palore has come out with an interesting solution that brings you reviews for a business from multiple sites as soon as you click on the its business phone number located on any web page.

Palore Primed for US Launch
Palore is a browser add-on for finding reviews of local businesses. The company has already launched for the Israeli market, and a launch in San Francisco is imminent. As part of Mashable's YourPitch series, where founders talk about their new startups and features, Palore's co-founder and CEO Hanan Lifshitz explains the concept.
